Values of Togetherness, Love & Peace
Our guiding principles – Umoja (Togetherness), Obotie (Love) and Chigayo (Peace) – are more than words. They are actions that shape how we conduct business and how we interact with our communities. In an environment where division can easily arise, emphasising shared values keeps us focused on what unites us.
Togetherness means recognising that Nairobi’s boardrooms and Kisii’s markets are part of the same ecosystem. When we act in unity, we create networks that benefit everyone – from farmers supplying factory inputs to consumers purchasing finished goods. It requires intentional collaboration across sectors and geographies.
Love, or Obotie, is about leading with compassion and respect. It shows in the way we listen to young people’s concerns, support women entrepreneurs and treat our employees. Love is a commitment to human dignity, ensuring that growth and profit never come at the expense of people’s wellbeing.
Peace, Chigayo, does not just mean absence of conflict. It is proactive: building systems that resolve differences through dialogue, ensuring fair distribution of resources and standing against hate speech and misinformation. Peace nurtures stability so businesses can flourish and communities can thrive.
What I Learned
My journey from Kitutu Chache to Nairobi has taught me that values guide outcomes. Without a foundation of togetherness, love and peace, investments and policies will not deliver lasting change. These principles help me bridge urban and rural priorities and keep the focus on service to people.
What We Do Next
We will continue promoting respectful dialogue online and offline. Our community engagements will include workshops on non‑violent communication and media literacy. Within our businesses, we are fostering inclusive teams that reflect the diversity of Kenya. By living these values, we hope to inspire others to do the same.
